On January 1st, 2020 a viral tweet went around comparing talented musicians Ari Lennox and Teyana Taylor to Rottweilers. This tweet sparked a bigger conversation around aggression towards black women.
I remember hearing Jada Pinkett Smith when speaking to Jordyn Woods on the Red Table Talk, ”Black women can be the most disregarded and disrespected creatures on Earth.”
Ari then went to Instagram live urging people to have more compassion towards black women, as well as calling out enablers who idly stand by and do nothing when black women are talked about and town down by others. Ari states, “I’m not with it, how people have black people so much. How black people can sit up here and say, ‘it’s not my problem’ or ‘she does look like a Rottweiler.’ I believe the purpose of her live was to let people know she loves herself and her beautiful black features. She would like society to be aware of the self-hate towards black women.
People referred to Ari as “sensitive.” We here at “The Black Dollar Movement” agree with Ari Lennox. Let’s change the narrative of how black women are viewed by society. Black women are beautiful, black women are courageous, black women are resilient, and black women are loving. Let’s start uplifting black women instead of tearing them down!
