Meet Dr.Gladys West, the mathematician who developed the GPS, she was recently inducted into the Air Force Hall Of Fame. Dr.West who is now is 87 years old was inducted on December 6th, 2018 in Washington D.C. She was one of only a few women who participated in computing for the United States Military. She was among the “Hidden Figures” team who did computing for the U.S. military. Throughout the 1960’s Dr.West broke ground with her major astrophysics achievements. While Dr.West was employed with the Air Force she worked on a computer system that attempted to produce the most accurate coordinates for the bases machinery. This technology development contributed to the basis for the GPS (Global Positioning System).
